You’ve read it right! POP MIX! hahahahaha! For those who know/knew me, they know this is the last genre of music on earth that I would even consider mixing on my decks, much more download. I DJ’ed professionally for about 5 years, not counting the formative and seminal years I’ve spent with a mobile disco way back in the 80’s. I hate pop. I hate songs that I hear on the radio 24/7. Real DJs don’t play pop. DJs are supposed to be the ones educating and enlightening people about music. Playing and mixing what you hear on the radio, isn’t educating.. It’s called crap! You don’t deserve to be called a DJ if you do.

Hold on hold on.. Then why the the hell did I make this one?? Aahhhh.. Here’s my explanation.. I’ve been toying with new equipment and DJ programs lately, and wanted to see if they’re really as good as they say. I’m talking about Serato Scratch Live, Final Scratch, Native Instruments Traktor, Ableton, Mixmeister, etc. These programs are what the New Breed of DJs use now. You can say, the DIGITAL DJING REVOLUTION has begun! Gone are the days when DJs were limited to playing with turntables, and carrying around heavy crates of records. Instead of buying records or CDs, DJs now invest in laptops, use midi controllers, buy their tracks online, use programs like the ones mentioned above, to mix, remix and create music on the fly!So.. I was trying these programs one day, when my wife caught me tinkering with the laptop and tweaking knobs here and there, and she said something like “Ok yan ah! DJing with a laptop! hahahaha!”. Tawanan daw ba si DJ Robin Mendoza! For those who are not well-informed, yan ang NEW ngayon! If you go on a gig, and you don’t have your laptop with you, your DJ peers will think you’re shit.

My wife isn’t really the clubbing type of person. She doesn’t know the difference between House, Electro, Breaks, Bigbeat, Garage, Trance, Techno, Tribal, Tech-House, Minimal, or Progressive. She refers to these genres as “DISCO” hahahahaha! Anyways, so she isn’t into what I play. She’s more of a Pop/Retro/New Wave/Jazz/Lovesongs type of person. Kaya kahit ano gawin ko, di sya talaga bilib sa DJing skills ko. I wanted to impress her (she was already pregnant at that time so I’m sure you’ll understand where I’m gettin’ at) so I played a few tunes that I know she’s quite familiar with. Yun na! Natuwa sya and she asked me to make her a mixed CD of so called “Pop” songs that she chose herself! Napasubo ata ako hahahaha!

A full day of downloading, and arranging the tracks and I was ready to start, or should I say experiment on this new undertaking. It wasn’t that hard. It took me just 4 hours to mix, remix, remaster, and finalize everything. And this is the end result! POPGIRL MIX dedicated to my wife and my ‘lil princess, my two POPGIRLS! This is the same mix that has been playing on my wife’s MP3 player for months now. The same music that she’s been playing for our baby, in her tummy hehe. Everytime nga daw the baby hears the music, naglilikot daw. Nagsasayaw yata! Probably saying “DADDY! YOU ROCK!! Gimme some scratch!” Hahahahaha!
