I am a product of the 80s. I consider myself a true blue “New Waver” for these simple reasons.

  • I wore billboard and shambu shirts with my favorite bands like New order, Lotus Eaters, The Smiths, etc printed boldly in the front.

  • I went to shool with my hair dyed green or blue, and sometimes wore eyeliners to look like Robert Smith of The Cure.

  • I had loafers, haruta, tok toks, bla blas, espadrilles, topsiders, tretorns and creepers for shoes.

  • I used to buy cassette tapes and vinyls at Odyssey for 40 pesos a record on a regular basis.

  • I was an avid listener of BM 105 and XB 102. In fact I still have my XB 102 t-shirt although it doesn’t fit now.

  • I wore trenchcoats at concerts and parties, sometimes even at school under the mid day sun, just to look cool.

  • I was a big fan of the Dawn, Identity Crisis, Mere Mercy and other local bands.

  • My favorite movies then were Some Kind Of Wonderful, Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink and I used to think that Molly Ringwald was the bomb.

After twenty plus years, I still find the music of the 80s and the new wave era, a good alternative when I’m not listening and playing House and Electronica. I’d rather listen to new wave, and muse over the good old days than torture my ears with heavy metal and rap crap.

When I was just starting as a DJ, I honed my skills playing New Wave and 80s stuff. Remember State Of The Nation? Wishful Thinking? The More You Live The More You Love? These are some of the songs that I’ve gotten used to playing every single night at parties. I still have the old records with me stacked somewhere in the basement of our house in the Phils. Haven’t played these songs on my SL-1210s for years, because sadly the new wave era died and I never found the use for them anymore. My obsession for the music didn’t die when the 80s era ended, and that’s the reason why I made a new mix compilation showcasing songs of the that era, but with a touch of electronica.

You will find songs in this compilation very familiar, especially if you’re a product of the 80s like me. But you will be surprised to hear that they sound totally different from the original. These songs were remixed by famous international DJs and artists with the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Joey Negro, Westbam, Way Out West, the Crystal Method, Dave Aude, David Guetta, Pryda, Peter Presta, among others. I have also included some tracks that I remixed myself that you won’t find anywhere. These exclusive remixes by Robin Mendoza can only be found in this compilation.
