Muscat Festival 2008.. in pictures.

Muscat Festival is an annual celebration of Oman�s traditional arts, culture and heritage. It is organized by the Muscat Municipality, and is usually held at the beginning of every year, to provide the people of Oman, expatriates and tourists fun, adventure, excitement and entertainment. It is the country�s most spectacular tourist attraction, and has played a very significant role in building and supporting the country�s flourishing tourism and hospitality industry.

I’ve been a regular visitor of this festival ever since I was a kid. Oo, matagal na akong nakakapunta dito dahil ang tatay ko nagtrabaho dito ng 20 plus years. Tuwing bakasyon at Christmas break, lagi kami nagpupunta dito. Pero sa kasamaang palad, bukod sa bata pa ako noon, wala rin akong DSLR para kunan ng pics ang aking mga nakikita.

Eh ngayon meron na. So.. Ano pa hinihintay natin?? Eh di tignan na natin ang mga pics!

The welcoming party. Lahat ng pumapasok sa festival grounds, eto ang unang makikita. A group of Omani musicians playing traditional music. Lively ang kanilang musika at talaga naman mapapasayaw ka. Don’t mind the people heckling at your crazy dance steps. Theirs is that bad as well hahaha!

A harvest dance of some sort. Siguro para maganda ang ani, at para umulan. Yeah right.

Mga lokal na nagbabatian. Hindi uso sa kanila ang beso-beso. Nagkakamay sila at nagdidikitan ng ilong kasama na jan ang pagsinghot at pagtatanong ng, “Helo pre. Kelan ka huling naligo??”

At syempre, mawawala ba ang picture ng camel? Hindi kumpleto ang festival kapag wala nito.

Omanis selling native jewelries and silver craft. Famous ang Oman sa quality ng silver, at napaka-intricate ng designs ng mga palamuti sa katawan.

Mga batang nag-aaral.. Ay teka, di ako sure. Baka nagtsi-tsismisan lang sila. O baka naglalaro ng tong-its. Siguro mga pasaway din ito tulad nating mga pinoys pag wala ang titser.

A typical Omani house.. ermmm… doorway pala. Sayang hindi ko nakunan ang loob ng bahay. I sooo love this pic! And oh, if you must know.. I submitted this photo in a magazine and hopefully, they will use it and pay me good money lol.

Omani jars and furniture. Again, some of the best in the region.

A Syrian dance troupe entertaining the crowd. Madami pang bansa ang kasama dito pero dahil sa naglibot ako, mga Syrians lang inabutan ko. If I stayed longer, I would have seen the Russians, the Dutch, Egyptians, Chinese and many more. Sayang nga lang at wala representation ang Pilipinas. Matutuwa sila pag nakakita sila ng tinikling for sure.

Festival grounds near the man-made lagoon. Nakakatuwa dito dahil feel na feel mo ang festive mood. The lights, the music, the cool breeze of the night, the smell of flowers, the smoke from barbecue grills… Haaaay…

A reproduction of Oman’s most famous castle, the Nizwa fort located 300 kilometers south of the city. Nakapunta na ako dun, at talaga naman iba ang pakiramdam kapag nakakita ka ng mga lumang gusali na gawa sa bato. One of the best tourist destinations in Oman.

A massive scale reproduction of the pyramids of Egypt. Hindi ko maintindihan kung bakit naisama ang pyramids dito, eh wala naman ganun sa Oman. Pyramiding schemes meron.

The dancing fountain at the lagoon. Sayang lang at di ko nakuhanan ng madami. Paiba-iba ng ilaw yan eh. And when you look at it from a distance, mukha talagang sumasayaw.

A high-flying acrobatic act from Canada. The kids love them! And I do too. Especially the girl on the pic. Seksi kase eh hahaha!

View of the man-made lagoon from afar. Simply beautiful! Romantic din. Wag lang sana matulad sa mga parks sa pinas, na pagdating ng gabi eh ginagawang motel ng mga baboy at walang modong malilibog.

Fireworks! AWESOME!!! and awesome pic too. Di ba di ba di ba??!!!!

Festival grounds again. Nakunan pati yung bat signal lol

Entrance to the Heritage Pavillions. This is where participating countries showcase their stuff ranging from handicraft to food and everything else in between. Dito ka rin makakabili ng mga produkto na gawa sa mga bansang kasali. Mura at siguradong orig!

Eto ang pavillion ng.. ng… ay nakalimutan ko. Sensya na, absent ako nung tinuro ng titser namin ang mga flags ng iba’t ibang bansa. Isang flag lang talaga kabisado ko at di ko malilimutan. Red Flag.. na buwanang naka-taas lol.

Yemen Pavilion. If you’re looking for good bargains, this is the place to be. I remember my wife buying a pair of leather shoes and a some fancy jewelries at the Yemen pavilion last year. Ang mura! Ok din ang kanilang handicraft at iba pang pang-display sa bahay.

Turkish pavilion. Dito naman matatagpuan ang pinaka-masarap na shawarma sa balat ng lupa! You haven’t experienced a real shawarma if you haven’t eaten a turkish one. Madami din good finds dito. At syempre, madami chiks na Turkish sa loob. Ang gaganda nila. Bagay na bagay sila saken nyahahaha!

This is one pavilion that disappointed me. Look at the pic closely. Indonesia and Philippines, sharing one pavilion. Wala ako paki sa Indonesia, pero hindi ba kaya ng pinas na mag-host ng sarili nilang pavilion na walang kasama??? At ang mas lalong nakakainis jan, pagpasok mo sa loob, eto ang makikita mo:

Yan ang makikita mo. Puro framed posters ng places sa pinas. Wala man lang kasamang mga pamphlets or flyers. At eto pa.. shit walang tao sa mga booths!! How do you expect a visitor taking interest in something you are promoting, if there’s no one there to talk to??? Whoever organized and planned the representation of the Philippines here should be reprimanded. You guys did a lousy job! Unf*ckingbelievable!

Umiinit na ulo ko! Kailangan ng pampa-kalma…

Ayan! Kalmado nako. Ganda eh. This is the ceiling of the Chinese Pavilion. Ramdam ko na parang sumisinghot ako ng insenso, umiinom ng tsaa at kumakain ng mami’t siopao habang mayroong nagde-demo sa harapan ko ng kung-fu.

Ferris Wheel inside MaraLand. Sayang at hindi ako nakasakay. Ganda pa naman vantage point sana to take more pics of the festival grounds.

Carousel. Ang laki nitong merry-go-round na ito. Lahat ng nanggaling jan makikita mo pasuray-suray paglabas nyaaaaa!

The Track of Death. Tawag ko lang yan sa rollercoaster ride na ito. This is the same ride that killed two people last year. Mechanical problems daw and some people got thrown off the carriage. Hindi na ako nag-attempt na sumakay, dahil ang dami may sabi na talagang nakaka-windang daw. Notice the two Omanis buying popcorn? Naisip ko lang naman, na kung kakain kaya sila ng hilaw na popcorn, at sasakay sa rollercoaster, maluluto kaya yun sa loob ng tyan nila? Hindi siguro dahil kailangan nga pala ng mantika. Watta stupid thought. Ok, shuddup!

An old-fashioned well. Noong hindi pa uso ang makinarya, ang ginagamit ng mga lokal para makakuha ng tubig sa balon ay mga donkeys. Ang mga donkeys ang humihila ng tali na nakakabit sa malaking timba na bumababa sa balon bla bla bla bla.. Syempre alam nyo na yan…. Next!

A typical Bedouin tent. Hand made ang tent na ito, at ang pinakamahalagang bagay sa buhay ng mga Bedouin’s (nomads). Palipat lipat kasi sila ng lugar, kung saan may tubig at pwede maanginain ang kanilang mga alagang kambing at tupa, doon sila. Sa disyerto, hindi lang init ang mararanasan mo. Madaming lugar dito na pag dating ng gabi sobrang lamig, at ang ganitong klaseng tent ang nagbibigay proteksyon sa mga Bedouins.. Sya nga pala, pati ata mga kambing nakikigamit ng tent na ganito at nakikitulog din. Kaya wag na kayo magtaka kung bakit amoy kambing din ang iba sa kanila.

A replica of the ship Sinbad (or Sindbad) used during his quests and travels. Trivia time muna.. Sinbad came from Oman. Sohar, Oman to be exact. Omanis are very good fishermen. Makakakita ka pa dito sa mga malalayong lugar ng mga lokal na ganitong uri ng sasakyang dagat ang ginagamit sa pangingisda.

Eto, hindi ko alam kung ano ito. Basta kinuhanan ko lang ng pic kasi parang kewl tignan lol

Mga babaeng lokal na nagsasayaw ng kanilang native dance, otherwise known as ‘itaktak mo ang papaya remix’ lol. Di ko maintindihan mga pinaggagawa ng mga ito. Bawal kasi kung tutuusin na basta-basta kukuha ng pics ng mga babaeng lokal. Pero may nakita akong isang expat na kuha ng kuha, eh mas maganda camera ko sa kanya, kaya nag-showdown kami nyahahaha!

The lagoon and the fountains again. Paalis na ako nito eh, pero binalik balikan ko ang lagoon and thought of good things. Nag-imagine ako na kasama ko ang aking mga kaibigan at pamilya. Ang saya siguro. Oh well… For now, solo flight muna ako…

Goodbye MUSCAT FESTIVAL 2008! Thanks for the experience! I will be visiting you again next year!

Hmmm…very impressive…inspiring! I might consider photography as a hobby. I’m sure it’s expensive but it can be profitable as well!

pero wag ka, ang ganda naman ng mga disenyo ng mga palasyo churvalu nila….sobrang complicated and defined yung mga designed pero ang ganda ng kinalabasan…waaahhh!!!!

Welcome back! ang ganda kosa ng mga pics mo. pwedeng pwede na sa mags. malaki ang kita dyan. Oman ba ay kasing liberated ng UAE? nagulat ako kasi may mga rides sila. mga bkada ko kasi bored na bored sa saudi, ayaw na magsibalik gusto sa dubai na pumunta.

hey pareng bluep! salamat ulti sa pagdaan. naku, hindi pa gaano maganda yan pics na yan. kulang pa sa gear, nag-iipon pa hahahaha. re oman, medyo liberated din sila but not like uae. sa uae kumpleto eh. ang oman kase medyo late nag-open sa outside world kaya huli sila sa mga ganyang bagay,. but the development is at a rapid pace and im sure in 5 to 10 yrs time, kaya na nila makipagsabayan.. good day bro!

salamalaykum bro… ganda ng mga shots mo ha… parang pro ang dating… anong gamit mong cam pala… SLR ka ba? plano kung bilhin yung sa Sony H9 ata yun… kaso mejo mahal pa sa ngayon sa Sony Center dito sa amin… in time pag may polus na saka ko bibilhin hehehhe

…amazing! ang ganda pala jan sa muscat. as in di ko naimagine na ganyan ang itsura jan. kasi naman sa balitang middle east puro patayan, gahasaan, at kung anoano pang nega ang balita sa ksa,oman,uae!hmp!
…buti pa yung pavilion ng pinas d2 sa dubai nung me festival, ang daming tao…kahit puro kurtina at lingeries ang tinda. syempre mabenta ang street foods e..toknene,kikiam at fishballs!

buti pa jan. dito sarap batukan mga organizers eh. di tuloy sineseryoso pinas dito lol

Halow po. This Muscat Festival 2008 sounds really very interesting. Ang ganda po ng mga kuha niyo sa cam! I find the Philippine Pavilion disheartening, though. Grr… freaking framed pictures- I see those in every Department of Tourism office! Grr…
